Everyone please pray for a guy named Sean Moore. He is a friend of some friends — he and his family (of 5 kids) attend our friends church — and he was diagnosed with a rare pediatric cancer (don’t know the name) a few months ago. He has undergone 6 weeks of radiation, and is now back at Johns Hopkins where he will be having a 25hr surgery performed tomorrow (he has already had a prepatory surgery a few days ago that took a few hrs — and he has not been doing good after that one). It is a contained tumor at the bottom of his spine, and they will be removing the whole thing. He has already undergone surgery, a couple months ago, which left him with a colostomy bag and a “urine bag” (for lack of a better term); there are also other side-effects that he is also having to deal with (like inability to be intimate). Please pray for this hurting brother, they believe they can get the tumor; and have given him a favorable prognosis. He has endured, and still must endure soooo much! His wife’s name is Angela, and they just need our prayer support more than ever; and especially tomorrow as they start this amazingly long procedure.
Nothing is too difficult for our God!
I lay Sean before you now . . .

here’s part of a recent update(on Facebook) on Shawn…”Looking ahead, Shawn will undergo his major surgery next Wed. Aug 18. The surgery will entail removing the entire tumor in one piece (it is the size of a full term fetus). The entire sacrum (tailbo…ne) will be removed in this process along with all of those nerves. The doctor is hoping to spare the nerves of the lowest lumbar vertebrae, but it will depend upon how much they are impacted by the tumor. His strength and stability when he walks will be affected by whether these nerves are taken. After the tumor is removed, his spine will be stabilized by bolts and rods. Finally, the plastic surgeaon will use the flap of abdominal muscle to close the wound. The surgery could take anywhere from 15-25+ hours. After the surgery, Shawn will be in the sedated in the ICU for a few days. He will remain in the hospital for several weeks, unable to put any weight on the new skin flap.
The surgery has a huge risk of blood loss and is extremely stressful on the body. Afterward, there is a serious risk of infection and tissue breakdown, particularly where the skin flap. His healing will be impacted by the radiaiton he’s received, which compromises the immune system.
Shawn is very afraid. He is a man of few words and several times he had asked me to post and be very forthright about our concerns so that you all would know specifically what to pray for. So, I am asking you to pray fevently for him, his health, the doctors, and his peace, that he may cling to Jesus as He goes through the absolute most frightening time in His life. That Jesus is more real to Him than ever before.”

Bobby & Angela. I know that it is early, but have you heard anything on how Shawn’s surgery went? Wow! Can’t imagine such an intrusive and lonnnnnnnggggg surgery. I’m praying for Shawn and his family.
And, of course, I continue to pray for your recovery. Hope you are feeling much better and stronger every day.

I’m Still praying for Shawn and family, and you all.
Praying Bobby, that body, mind and soul get prepared for that return to work. The Lord give you His peace. Peace in Him is confidence in Him, and visa versa.
Now I’m going to the mirror to preach that sermon to the guy on the other side ; O)

Hi everyone…here’s what I know about Shawn. The surgery was successful! They got the entire tumor (it was the size of a soccer ball) and they got clean margins. He was in ICU for a few days and was sedated. He is now in a normal room. He is very depressed. But, physically he’s doing well. They have gotten him out of bed and I guess he has some phys therapy everyday. That’s what I know. It will be a loooooooooooooooooong road for him as far as recovery. They still need our prayers.

ps as a result of the surgery he has lost normal function of his bladder and bowels. Also, he may not be as stable in his walking as he was before the surgery.
